Making the Most of the Washington Consortium

Have you ever walked the campus of Georgetown, GW, or UMD and wondered what it would be like to take a class there? Well guess what, you can! Many students don’t know that American is part of the Consortium of Universities of the Washington Metropolitan Area, an organization which includes the following institutions:

American University

The Catholic University of America

Gallaudet University

The George Washington University

George Mason University

Georgetown University

Howard University

Marymount University

Montgomery College

National Defense University

National Intelligence University

Northern Virginia Community College

Prince George’s Community College

Trinity Washington University

Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences

University of the District of Columbia

University of Maryland College Park

One of the coolest things about consortium membership (besides the fact that you can get literally any book from any member library) is the cross-registration program, which allows students from any institution within the consortium to take classes at another member institution. With registration coming up, be sure to remember that if there’s a class you want that AU doesn’t offer, you can try to take it at another University for AU credit! Check out the AU registrar’s page for more information on how to register for consortium classes.

If you have any questions or have any concerns about registration in general, the Peer Advisors are here to help! Feel free to make an appointment or drop by during our walk-in advising event on April 13.
