Take Advantage of All American Weekend!

All-American Weekend, Alumni Weekend, Family Weekend: Call it whatever you want, but it will definitely be fun! This year’s All-American Weekend (October 21-22) is so STACKED with great events, I had trouble selecting which events to highlight for this post! To see the full list of events going on this weekend, click here   or just check out the rest of this post to see what we personally wouldn’t want to miss!

First things first, you can register on the quad outside of MGC at the Hospitality Center starting on Friday, Oct. 21st at 9 AM, so there is still time to get involved in the on-campus activities! If you’ve already registered, you should still stop by the Hospitality Center on Friday at 10 AM-6 PM or Saturday 9 AM-3 PM to pick up your registration packets, name tags, any pre-ordered tickets, and the final schedule including some more specific details than on the website. Students who would be attending without their families do not have to register, but be sure to leave the catered events for those who have paid.

There are a ton of activities to choose from revolving around every aspect of life at AU. You can take one of the many tours offered, whether that may be AU Neighborhood Bus Tours, Arboretum & Sustainability Tour, Historical Walking Tour of Campus, or Exhibitions located in the AU Katzen Museum! Each tour is a bit different but all provide meaningful information about the surrounding area, our values, and history. If you’d like to learn a bit more about AU resources, there are great workshops such as Transitioning to AU for Students with Disabilities, Fraternity and Sorority Life 101, Internationalizing an AU Education, and Managing Your Career Development! Don’t forget about the great evening events being offered, such as South Asian Students Association Cultural Show, The Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum*, and the KPU Political Union’s Speaker, Tony Goldwyn*! CAS is hosting some cool events to explore majors, too! Dean Starr will be at Discover the Sciences!

If your family is in town, don’t forget to check out all the amazing sites in DC and the great restaurants the district has to offer! For fast/casual options, there’s Cava Grill in Tenleytown or 2Amy’s Pizza on Macomb Street, which is frequented by Joe Biden! For a fancier night on the town, check out Farmers, Fishers, Bakers on the Georgetown Waterfront or have your parents get the real AU experience by taking them to Chef Geoff’s! DC also has authentic restaurants for just about every cuisine you can imagine – I know Rasika is a favorite Indian restaurant that a lot of AU students hope to experience before they graduate!

As you can see, there really isn’t a wrong way to tackle All-American Weekend, just make sure to get out and take a break from classes and any other stressors you may have! Start a new tradition and make the most of it!
